Oxford Democrats dine on pizza

MEXICO – Oxford County Democrats held a pre-caucus pizza party at the Mexico Town Hall Feb. 7 and welcomed US. Rep. Mike Michaud and Jim Dean, brother of presidential contender Howard Dean, as special guests. The event was hosted by County Commissioner Fred Kennard, assisted by Rep. John Patrick, Sen. Bruce Bryant and House candidate Linda Petrie.

Jarad Dumas of Mexico introduced Dean to the group. Assisting with arrangements and refreshments were Bill Petrie, Julie Burns, Myrtle Milledge and Pauline Dawson. Prior to the party, Michaud attended an economic development briefing and our hosted by Town Manager Joe Derouche and the River Valley Growth Council. Bryant, Patrick and Petrie accompanied the congressman on the tour. Sen. Steve Stanley of Millinocket was also in attendance.

Oxford County Chairwoman Cathy Newell expressed enthusiasm for the number of young voters attending the party and planning to participate in the caucus on the following day. “Our committee is thrilled to see so many young people getting excited by candidates and willing to pitch in for the future of our state and nation,” Newell stated.

The next meeting of the Oxford County Democrats will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, with a beef stew supper at the Rumford Eagles Club at 5:30 followed by a presentation on Dirigo Health by Adam Thompson of the governors Office of Health Policy.
