MECHANIC FALLS – The Androscoggin County Council, Maine Department of the American Legion, held the annual county oratorical contest at the Mechanic Falls-Minot-Poland Post 150. Chairman of the event was Legionnaire Bill Barrs of Lisbon Falls.
First-place winner was Lisbon High School junior Nissa Marenius, daughter of Dennis and Anita Marenius of Lisbon Falls, and runner-up, freshman Andrea Wrede, daughter of Russell and Anita Wrede of Lisbon Falls.
The county is the start for the first-place contestant, who will go through the district. That winner will go to the department, then that winner will continue on to the national contest.
