1927 – 2004

LEWISTON – Margaret “Meg” Gagnier, 77, of Lewiston, died with her daughters at her side Thursday, Feb. 12, at the d’Youville Pavilion, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 31, 1927, in St. Prosper, Quebec, she was the daughter of Mary Anna and Charles James who later moved their family to Millinocket.

She graduated in the top 10 of her class from Stearns High School, and in 1945, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Gagnier. They were married for 27 years until his untimely death in 1973.

Mrs. Gagnier was the executive secretary for Platz & Thompson Law Office in Lewiston and was exemplary in her field, earning the respect of those who worked with and for her. She retired in 1989, after 27 years of service to Attorney John Platz and the partners of that firm.

“Meg” was active all her life. She was an avid and talented golfer. She loved to bowl, play cards and socialize with friends and family. For many years she spent winters in Port Orange, Fla., where she enjoyed her many friends, golf, card games and the warm weather.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Biron of Auburn, and Susan Patneaude and her husband Roland of Jay; four grandchildren, Joe Biron and his wife Elle of Auburn, Maria Biron of Milford, Mark Duston and his wife Lotta of London, England, and Matthew Duston of Portland; two great-grandchildren, Autumn Witham and Joelle Biron; her only sister, Jean Santos and her husband Vic of Ludlow, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and her steadfast friend, Jean Cote of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her brother, Charles James.
