SABATTUS (AP) – Speed and alcohol were factors in a weekend crash on the Maine Turnpike that killed a motorist from New Hampshire who had a suspended license and was driving a stolen car, state police said Sunday.

The 1998 Pontiac Grand Am was traveling at nearly 100 mph in the northbound lane near the Litchfield line at around 4 a.m. Saturday when it skidded out of control, went off the turnpike and rolled over several times, police said.

Investigators used fingerprints to identify the victim as Alan Record, 20, of Northwood, N.H., who was alone in the car.

Record was thrown from the vehicle, which landed on top of him.

The car was stolen Friday night from a parking lot outside a bar in Rochester, N.H., police said. The owner, Randy Bernier, 22, of Northwood, said he did not report the theft until the following day because he assumed Record would return it.

Bernier and Record had gone to the bar with a group of friends, police said, and Record waited in Bernier’s car because he was underage. When the group returned, the car and Record were gone.
