A Falmouth skier was killed by a

14-year-old.

NEWRY – It could be several weeks before a determination is made on possible charges, if any, from Thursday’s fatal skiing accident at Sunday River Ski Resort.

That’s what Oxford County Capt. James P. Miclon said Monday after Deputy Brian Landis spent the weekend conducting interviews.

“He has one, possibly two more interviews to be done, then we’ll sit with the district attorney to determine what if any charges come from the incident,” Miclon said.

Jane M. McCormack, 39, of Middle Road, Falmouth, who was struck by another skier, died of head injuries later at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Landis said Friday.

The second-grade teacher at Reiche School in Portland was standing at the intersection of Heat’s On and Jibe trails on White Cap peak between noon and 1 p.m. when a 14-year-old boy from Dover, Mass., came down Jibe Trail and struck her, Landis said.

“What we are trying to determine is, was it an outright, ‘I can’t stop; it’s an accident,’ kind of thing, or was it a ‘total disregard for everybody else’ kind of thing,” Miclon said.

The boy, who had minor injuries, and his family have since returned to Massachusetts, but police intend to meet with the family this week to conduct further interviews, he added. A burial service for McCormack was held Monday morning.
