AUBURN – A celebration to honor the work of JoAnn Pike, founder and executive director of the Good Shepherd Food-Bank, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the food bank at 3121 Hotel Road.

Pike, who started the food bank in 1981 in a small room in her home, is retiring due to ongoing health concerns. At Thursday’s ceremony, the food bank’s operation center will be dedicated as the JoAnn E. Pike Building.

Key speakers at the event will include Ron Hodge, the CEO of Hannaford Brothers; Tim Taylor from Clark Charitable Trust; and Hy Rosen, the founder and executive director of the Greater Lakes Food-Bank in Minneapolis, Minn. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins has prepared a videotape to be shown at the event.

Last year, the bank – with facilities in Auburn and Brewer – distributed 9.2 million pounds of food across Maine through a network of 475 nonprofit soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters.
