On Tues., Jan. 27 St. Peter and Sacred Heart School had two visitors. These two visitors were brothers, Norman and Lionel Guay. Norman Guay is the mayor of Auburn and Lionel Guay is the mayor of Lewiston. No other twin cities in the state of Maine have ever had brothers as mayors. Both of these men graduated from Saint Peter’s School. At that time St. Peter’s was the largest grammar school in Lewiston. Both of these men were brought up to believe in public service. Therefore, in November 2001 Norman ran for mayor of Auburn. In November of 2003, Lionel ran for mayor as well.

Both men have other jobs also. Norman is a probation officer and Lionel is an accountant. Being mayor can affect your family in many ways. They are always away from their families because of late business meetings and also out of town meetings. Their families support them a lot. Being mayor is very difficult and demanding. It is also very time consuming. They have very little spare time, but when they do they like to go to Maineiac games.

They both said to us, ” The key to being a successful mayor is making the right decisions not the popular ones.” This advice not only applies to being mayor but to our everyday lives.
