SCARBOROUGH – A plant auction, sponsored by the Cumberland County Office of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the Cumberland County Master Gardeners, will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Scarborough Downs.

The auction will be held immediately after the flower show closes at the People, Places and Plants gazebo in the center court space between the exhibit hall and the entrance to the vendor hall.

The proceeds benefit the horticultural education programs of the Cumberland County Extension.

The flower show vendors, exhibitors, outside businesses and other Extension supporters have donated items and services for the auction.

Open house

WALDOBORO – The Downeast School of Massage will hold an open house at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, when tours will be given, refreshments will be served and administrators will be on hand to provide information.

The 10-month program includes instruction in anatomy, physiology, massage, kinesiology, nutrition, reflexology and hydrotherapy.

Rose society

BRUNSWICK – The Mid-Maine Rose Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 14, for a rose growing workshop at Skillins Greenhouses, 422 Bath/Brunswick Road. A brief meeting will follow the workshop.

WINTHROP – The Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will hold its quarterly meeting on Saturday, March 20, at St. Francis Xavier Church.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 9 and the program at 9:15 a.m. A noon Mass will be held after the meeting followed by lunch.

BRIDGTON – Fire departments from Maine and New Hampshire will participate in a modified giant slalom race for breast cancer research at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Shawnee Peak.

Call for calendar

SOUTH PORTLAND – An open call to be a “calendar girl” candidate for the 2005 Gracefully Yours wall calendar, featuring New England women in fashionable photos and inspiring stories is announced. It is not a “super-model” call, but it is for everyday women who have earned the right to “shine.”

Gracefully Yours has been featured in news articles, radio and television throughout New England. The project supports women and charities. Events will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Center Court in the Maine Mall.

Women must log on to www.gracefullyyourscalendar.com for details, follow the instructions and bring items to the mall for an interview. Applications and information is also available at the customer service desk in the mall.
