1909 – 2004

FARMINGTON – Alta E. Edmunds, 94, a resident of Canton, died Saturday, March 13, at Franklin Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 30, 1909, in Oxford, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Downing Tripp. She attended Catholic school in Portland.

On June 26, 1929, she married Frank C. Edmund in South Paris. They were married 49 years. He died in 1978.

She worked for Norway Shoe Company as a sock liner for many years, and also worked at Lord Brothers Tannery.

She enjoyed nature, working in her garden, tending her flowers, long rides along the coast, having visitors, and in her younger years, she deer hunted, only spotting deer for her family.

She was a member of the Grange in East Sumner.

She is survived by one son, Leon and his wife Dorothy Edmund of Canton; a sister-in-law, Mary Tripp of Paris Hill; five grandchildren, Alta Currier, Annette Faust, Donna Lee Edmunds, Ernest Chester Edmunds, and Melanie Eileen Hill; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Webster Tripp and Alton Tripp; and a half sister, Evangeline Harding.
