1905 – 2004

LEWISTON – Elodie Blanchard, 99, a resident of Montello Commons, Lewiston, formerly of Jay, died Saturday, March 13, at the nursing home, with her dear friends, Aline and Raymond at her side.

She was born in Paquetville, New Brunswick, Canada, Feb. 20, 1905, to Basilide and Marie (Landry) Theriault.

On Sept. 27, 1927, she married Joseph Blanchard in New Brunswick and came to live in Riley. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Riley, until its closing in 1991. She then became a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay. She was a very devout person and strongly believed in the power of prayer.

Her husband died in 1951, and she continued to live in their home caring for their daughter, Rita, who was severely handicapped. Rita died in 1971.

She enjoyed picking raspberries from her patch and giving them to neighbors and friends. Her favorite pastime was knitting mittens and stockings, which she gave to friends and church fairs.

Survivors include her sister, Dorina Theriault of Montreal, Canada; a brother, Elzear Theriault of Springfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she was predeceased by five brothers, Hilaire, Arthur, Albert, Alphonse and Celestin Theriault.
