1918 – 2004
RUMFORD – Ruth E. Young, 85, of Rumford, formerly of Canton and Dryden, died Thursday afternoon, March 18, at Rumford Community Hospital.
She was born in Jay, April 6, 1918, a daughter of Frederick and Lydia Jane (Pillsbury) Jackson. She worked in many different shoe shops over the years. She loved going on trips with her friend, Eva Taylor Richards. She was a member of the Canton and Rumford Senior Citizens and the Rumford First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, James Jr. and his companion, Detra of Peru and Gregory Sr. and his wife, Paula of Hartford; two sisters, Thelma O’Donnell of Portland and Alice Purrington of Chesterville; a brother, Howard and his wife, Gladys of Norridgewock; four grandsons, Greg Jr. of Canton, Robert and his wife Jamie of Maple Valley, WA., James Young III of N.C., Andrew of Peru; two granddaughters, Jennifer and her companion Ray of Champion, Pa., and Amy of Peru; four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Wilmet Jackson Sr. and Phillip Jackson; a son, Joseph; a daughter, Eilene Faye; and a brother-in-law, Phillip O’Donnell.
