UNITY – The Maine Tree Crop Alliance, the Maine Seed Saving Network, Fedco Seeds and the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host the fifth annual combined Seed Swap and Scionwood Exchange from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the Common Ground Education Center.

The event is open to the public. Workshops for seed savers, fruit enthusiasts and ornamental tree lovers will be offered. Participants should bring seeds, scionwood or cuttings they are able to share with others.

T-shirts, books, grafting supplies, rootstocks and some rare seeds will be on sale.

Hosts needed

LEWISTON – Hosts are needed for the Pacific Intercultural Exchange Program students, ages 15 to 17. The students speak English. The program is looking for warm and friendly families to host the high school students for the next school year.

Work party

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association is organizing a volunteer work party in celebration of Earth Day on April 17 and 18 at the Common Ground Education Center. Activities will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Volunteers are needed for cleaning a barn and the gardens, planting shade trees and organizing the maintenance building. There will be inside projects if it rains.

Volunteers should bring something for a potluck or brown bag lunch. The association will provide drinks and snacks.
