LEWISTON – The stakes will be high on Saturday, April 3, as students from around the state show their stuff at the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament at Bates College. The competition will determine which teams will represent Maine at the world finals on May 29 through June 1 at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Of the more than 125 teams to compete, those placing first or second will be eligible to advance to world finals.

Teams that receive a Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award are also invited to compete at world finals. The award embodies the spirit of Odyssey of the Mind by recognizing exceptional creativity, even though a team may not have placed at the top.

The teams have spent months developing solutions to “problems” with technical, artistic and environmental themes. At the state tournament, they’ll have eight minutes to win a chance to compete in Maryland in their problem and divisions.

The problems are open-ended, and there are no right or wrong solutions, so teams are judged on originality and innovation.
