1926 – 2004

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – John Williams Hayes, 78, of 141 Chestnut St., Middleboro, Mass., formerly of Lisbon died Wednesday, March 31, at the Life Care Center in Massachusetts.

Born in Spencer, Mass., March 8, 1926, a son of Henry and Flora Cote Hayes he was educated in Massachusetts schools. He served in the U.S Navy during World War II and was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 158 of Lisbon.

Mr. Hayes was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon Falls and was very active at Sacred Heart Church in Massachusetts. He was self-employed as a mechanic at John’s 95-Lewiston retiring in 1983.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, fishing, snowmobiling and loved visiting his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by six daughters and spouses, Carol Blanton and husband Eddie of Middleboro, Mass., Debbie Earle and husband Robert of Lisbon, Jonny Hayes and companion, Bruce Engert of Lisbon Falls, Terry Binette of Lisbon Falls, Sharon Karkos and Tony of Litchfield, Cindy Hayes-Curtis and Daryl of Lisbon; six sons and spouses,

Louis Michael of California, Richard and Chris of California, Kevin and Sharron, David and Lynn, and Raymond Hayes all of Middleboro, Mass., John Hayes of Lewiston; 36 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Louis Hayes of Dudley.

He was predeceased by a son, John Williams Hayes Jr.; a brother, Frances Hayes; a sister, Barbara Hayes.
