1926 – 2004

DURHAM – Francis G. Daniels β€œDan” of Royalsborough Road passed away, April 2, at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in the town of Brighton, Island Pond, Vt., Dec. 13, 1926, the son of Marguerite (Blake) Daniels Elie King and Alta Freemont Daniels.

He was educated in Brighton Schools and Attended Brighton High School, Island Pond,Vt. He worked for the Canadian National Railroad prior to entering the U.S. Navy, where he was an Ordnanceman in WWII and the Korean War. He was then stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station until Sept. 26, 1967, after completing his fourth tour of duty.

After retirement he entered into town politics in Durham serving on the Board of Selectmen and Assessor for over 10 years, the planning board for nearly 20 years and most recently on the Cemetery Committee.

He enjoyed repairing and selling mopeds. He and his wife toured parts of Maine, Vt. and Canada.

Survivors are his wife, Ethel M. Daniels of Durham; son, Dale Daniels and wife, Bethany of Durham; daughter, Denise Brady of Durham; grandsons, Robert Peacher of Bath and Kyle Daniels of Durham; granddaughter, Shea M. Brady of Durham; brothers, Danny Daniels of R.I. and Anthony Elie of Vt. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Fredrick Elie in 1964 and Lionel John Elie in 1991; sister, Karol Ann Smith in 1992 and most recently his mother, Marguerite King in March of 2004.
