HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) – A police officer was dragged by a car and shot the man behind the wheel to stop him, Haverhill police said.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Lawrence, and his condition was unknown, according to Lt. William Leeman.
The officer was not badly hurt after the dragging and shooting on Route 110 near an onramp to 495.
“He’s doing OK. He didn’t go the hospital. He should be OK,” Leeman said.
The officer was responding to a report of a car accident. No one else was injured, Leeman said.
Police did not release the name of the suspect or the officer.
