OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Historical Society’s first meeting for 2004 will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Otisfield Town Office. During the first part of the evening, officers and directors will be elected. Following the business portion of the meeting, Lee Dassler, executive director of the McLaughlin Foundation, will present a slide show and talk on the prehistoric Native American site in Oxford.

The slide presentation was originally funded by the Maine Humanities Council and prepared by Deborah Wilson, archaeologist in charge of exploring the site.

The slides and discussion will explain the evidence uncovered of the Paleo Indian activity and how that evidence has enriched archaeologists’ understanding of the Native Americans who lived or hunted along the Little Androscoggin River some 11,000 years ago.

The public is invited. The program will be videotaped with equipment loaned by Norway Public Television. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
