RUMFORD – A spaghetti supper, in memory of Matthew “Matt” McKinney, will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Rumford Eagles Club, Oxford Avenue. Cost is $6 a plate. A & M disc jockeys will present music for dancing and karaoke following supper. The evening will include music, 50/50 and raffles.

Proceeds will help defray medical costs for McKinney, a victim of pancreatic and liver cancer.
Coffeehouse
DIXFIELD – Jamie Virgin will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Dixfield Coffee House, High Street. Cost is $5 at the door; children under age 12 free when accompanied by parents. There will be desserts on sale along with a variety of beverages. Upcoming performances are in May, Jim Gallant, and June, WingNuts.
Red Hats meet
MEXICO – The Red Hats met at the Mexico Chicken Coop on March 31 with 33 members attending. Those winning red hat pins were Faye Turnbull, Jean Barrington and Nancy Palmer.

Sign-ups were held for a class at Murdock’s for making red hat pins and cards on May 5 at 6:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet for a “Red Hats Tea” at the Rumford United Methodist Church on May 6 at 1 p.m. with a cost of $5 in advance was passed around.

The Red Hats participated in the “Everyday in a Woman’s Life” program presented by the Rumford Community Hospital on April 3.

The next meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Chicken Coop.
Historical society
MEXICO – The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, for a hot dish supper.

Members will discuss a yard sale being planned for Saturday, May 15. Food will also be sold. The proceeds will be put in a fund that will enable the society to prepare the old Abbott School bell to be on exhibit on the lawn of the museum.

Members will participate with the Expo again in the fall. Word has been received that the group will again have trustees to finish painting the museum in July.

The society recently gave donations to Rumford Community Hospital, the March of Dimes and the GRAMPS program. Members are planning a full summer of activities.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays year round.
Rumford reunion
RUMFORD – There will be a reunion for anyone who lives in Smith Crossing or has ever lived in Smith Crossing from 1 to 11 p.m. July 24 at the Sons of Italy Hall.

There will be games for the kids and grownups, and there will be a dance from 8 to 11 p.m. A fee of $5 for anyone over 12 years old and $3 for under 12 will be assessed to cover the expenses for the day.
