The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
LEWISTON – Firefighters extinguished a blaze at Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary by 3 a.m. Sunday morning. The five-hour fire blackened an estimated 15 acres of woods, said Fire Capt. Victor Gaudreau.
There were no reports of injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Gaudreau said a crew stayed on the scene until 8 a.m. in case the flames rekindled.
The fire was originally reported a short way up a trail from the Montello Street entrance at 9:48 p.m. Saturday. Shortly before midnight a third alarm was called, calling all Lewiston firefighters – including those off-duty – to the scene, according to Fire Chief Michel Lajoie.
