PARIS – Westwinds, a select mixed choir, will present a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1, in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School’s auditorium, as part of their spring tour.

The Westwinds Choral Ensemble is from the Westfield Central School District in western New York. Members are selected by audition from students in grades 10 to 12. They rehearse outside of the school day, and all members of the ensemble are also members of the school’s mixed choir.

Besides performing frequently in school and community, they have made successful concert tours, including ones in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California, as well as England and Wales.

They have been active participants in New York State School Music Association major organization evaluations and have consistently received ratings of gold or gold with distinction.

In past years, they have done clinics with Vicki Lind at The University of Colorado at Boulder and William Weinert of the Eastman School of Music.

Their music covers a range of styles from traditional choral literature to contemporary folk music and show tunes. Their conductor is Kent Knappenberger, their school’s choral music teacher for the past 15 years.

An encore performance will be incorporated into the worship service of Hosanna New Testament Church in Oxford at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 2.

Members of the Oxford Hills school’s show and chamber choirs will join the Westwinds on one selection during the Saturday concert. Admission for the concert is free; donations will be accepted at the door.
