FARMINGTON – William “Bill” C. Lane, 61, of New Sharon died suddenly Thursday afternoon, April 29, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 11, 1943, in Farmington a son of the late Maurice and Lona (Stevens) Lane.
He was a graduate of New Sharon High School class of 1961. On Jan. 25, 1974, he married the former Donna L. Nightingale in Farmington.
“Bill” was a past master of Franklin Lodge 123 AF&AM, New Sharon and the Order of the Eastern Star. He has been a selectman for the town of New Sharon 1979-1988, and 1994-present for a total of over 19 years.
For over 20 years he was an insurance salesman for Gene Dubord. Since 1974, he has been an agent for Farmington Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Inc., and has been President since 1998. For the past 18 years he has been a Bus Driver and Custodian for SAD 9.
He was an avid craftsman. He loved the outdoors, fishing and riding ATV’s. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a people person who loved to laugh.
In addition to his wife of over 30 years of New Sharon, he is survived by a daughter, Wendy Lane Hauser and her husband Gary and their children Gregory and Kelsey of Maryland.
