BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) – Veteran firefighter Irwin “Buzz” Gross died Monday night from injuries incurred when he fell from an engine responding to an emergency.

Gross, 58, of Natick, fell from the truck Friday morning.

and suffered a head injury. He was in critical condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for several days.

“Throughout his 36 years of service he was a dedicated firefighter, committed to his profession and this community,” Brookline Fire Chief Peter E. Skerry Jr. said in a statement.

Brookline officials planned a news conference Tuesday to discuss the death.

Services are planned Thursday in Newton. Gross was married with two children.
