LEWISTON – Zina Schlikin, 83, formerly of Auburn, died Sunday, May 2, at Intown Manor after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Selo Bahna, Romania, Dec. 22, 1920, the daughter of Stefan and Odikia (Teteniuk) Ivaniuk. She emigrated with her children through Ellis Island in 1952, as a result of the sponsorship of the Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn. She became a U.S. Citizen and was naturalized in 1957, and was very proud to be an American citizen. She was married to Georg Schlikin who predeceased her in 1954.
Mrs. Schlikin had been employed at the Auburn Home for Aged Women and was a member of Court Street Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her baking, particularly her delicious breads and rolls, her beautifully decorated Ukrainian eggs, her strong determination, positive outlook and generosity of spirit.
She is survived by two daughters, Nina Schlikin of Minot and Natalia (Natalie) Schlikina of Waterville; a son, Nick Schlikin of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Scott Samson and wife Amy of Limerick, Tiffany Samson Miller and husband Todd of Lewiston, Garth Smith and wife Jennifer of Waterville and Gavin Smith of China; three great-grandchildren, Madysan Miller and Benjamin and Hannah Samson.
