FARMINGTON – Theodore S. “Ted” Lauritano, 70, of Farmington, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Saturday, May 8.

He was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Portland, a son of Alphonso and Mary V. Lauritano. He graduated in 1954 from Cheverus High School and continued his education at City College San Francisco where he studied Hotel and Restaurant Management.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He and his wife, Suzanne B. Lauritano, whom he married on May 16, 1964, moved from Brunswick to Farmington on Labor Day of 1981. He was in the Flooring business for over 30 years, having owned Homestead Carpet in Farmington. A skilled craftsman and perfectionist, his true passion, however, was designing and making boat canvases, a skill which prompted the birth in 1994 of his Boat Canvas Company.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Farmington. In addition to his work, his hobbies included woodworking and reading.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Suzanne of Farmington; son, Anthony A. Lauritano and wife, Susan of Bangor; two daughters, Therese Lauritano of Portland and Denise Saplywy and husband, James of Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada; four sisters, Mary “Mamie” Hodge of Monroe, La., Sister Anne Lauritano of St. Joseph’s Convent, Portland, Marcia Hughes of Portland and Charlotte Lupsha and husband, Joseph of Hallowell and two granddaughters, Bly Werner and Elise Saplywy.
