RUMFORD – Edward J. Fontaine died at home on Monday, May 10, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a short illness.

Born in Rumford, Aug. 23, 1947, he was the son of Dorothy Gellatly Fontaine and the late Henry J. Fontaine.

He attended Curtis High School and joined the Air Force in 1964.

After his discharge from the service, he returned to New York City, where he worked as a mason for several years. He then became a crane operator on the docks of Staten Island.

He relocated to Rumford, where he worked for his uncle, Gilbert Fontaine, as a plumber and part-time mason.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; three daughters, Sherri, Grace and Sereen; four grandsons; five sisters, Grace, Rena Marie, Dawn, Mary and Joyce; one brother, Hank; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Henry J. Fontaine, on March 27, 2003.
