LEWISTON – The newly formed chapter of Amnesty International at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, in Room 103. The chapter is open to students, faculty, staff and L-A area high school and community members.

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI’s vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

It is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. It does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.

Light refreshments will be served. All who are interested are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Christy Hammer at 753-6518 or e-mail chammer@usm.maine.edu.
