As part of his plea deal, the second suspect cannot receive more than eight years in jail.

PARIS – The second of two Massachusetts men involved in the Dec. 3 Big Apple holdup in Bethel pleaded guilty recently in Oxford County Superior Court.

Daniel Patrick Shannon, 19, of Rockland, Mass., who has been incarcerated since the holdup – unable to make $100,000 surety or $5,000 cash bail – pleaded guilty on April 29 to a Class B felony count of robbery and a likewise count of theft by receiving stolen property.

In exchange for the guilty pleas, a third felony charge of unlawful possession of heroin was dropped.

And, as part of the plea bargain agreement, Shannon can only be sentenced to up to eight years in prison.

The case was continued to August for sentencing, and Shannon returned to his Oxford County jail cell.

Shannon’s partner in the crime, Brian Edwards Kinlin Jr., 19, of Rockland, Mass., pleaded guilty on April 21 to a Class A felony count of robbery and a Class B felony count of receiving stolen property. He, too, is in Oxford County jail, unable to make bail, and awaiting an Aug. 4 sentencing date.

Both men robbed the Big Apple convenience store on Railroad Street at gunpoint, then fled down Route 26 while police rushed to the scene.

They were apprehended by Paris Sgt. Mike Dailey and officer Matthew Dailey on Route 26 just south of Stearns Hill Road after crashing their car into a tree while counting and stuffing the holdup loot – $583 – into their pockets.

According to a police affidavit and the Big Apple’s video surveillance tape, it was Shannon who brandished a .22-caliber semi-automatic Llama Especial pistol that the pair had allegedly stolen during a robbery in Rockland.

After the Massachusetts robbery, the pair drove to Shannon’s parents’ condominium at Sunday River Ski Area in Newry the day before they robbed the Big Apple store.
