AUGUSTA – Rep. Bill Earle, D-Damariscotta, a member of the Kora Shrine Chanters, joined the group recently at the State House to perform the National Anthem for the opening of session of the House of Representatives, for songs in the Rotunda prior to the session and “Funniculi Funnicula” for Gov. John Baldacci.

The Kora Shrine Chanters, a group of 18 members, perform at events throughout the year. All donations go directly to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, Mass., or the Shrine Hospital Burn Unit in Boston. Members come from throughout the state.

Earle travels to Lewiston most Thursdays for rehearsals. He started singing with the group in the early 1970s, but took a few years off while he was an adult education director. Most of the members have been involved for many years with the group.
