FARMINGTON – Farmington Elks Lodge Past Exalted Ruler Dick Bragg addressed Emblem Club 460 members of his hopes for the coming year prior to the start of the May meeting.

Bragg said he hopes the Elks and Emblem Club can continue to work together as they have in the past in ways that will be beneficial to the organizations and the community.

The meeting started with the initiation of two into the club. Joey Kinsey, the club’s first male applicant, and Marcella Savage were welcomed, bringing the number of members to 143.

Americanism Chairwoman Avis Mahoney read a story about “Our Flag.” Members volunteered to present flag-folding ceremonies on June 1, 13 and 14. The Emblem chorus will perform at the Elks Flag Day ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the West Farmington Elks Lodge. The chorus will rehearse at the home on Kamilla Hall at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9.

Shannon Smith, youth cheering chairwoman, asked for volunteers to judge the girls on May 19 at the Maillet School in Farmington, and May 20 at the Academy Hill School in Wilton.

The audit and budget committees gave their reports. Connie Small gave a report on the progress of the state convention, which will take place in June 2005.

Bethany Storer will chair the Father’s Day breakfast again this year. The breakfast will be held on Sunday, June 20, at the lodge. Kamilla Hall got volunteers to work and bake at the Monday night beano games for the next six months.

Jean Corcoran won the gift from the sunshine drawing and Darlene Lilly the 50-50 raffle. The pot of gold was won by Lena Searles.

A donation was made to an Emblem member in memory of her deceased husband, who was an Elk. The club voted to donate $25 to a Mount Blue student toward his trip to Africa, $100 to Special Olympics and $185 for a girl from Wilton to attend Girls State.
