SKOWHEGAN – Marcel T. Gauthier, 72, of Athens, died suddenly Monday, May 24, at Readington – Fairview Hospital.

He was born in St. Come, Canada, May 25, 1931, a son of Alfred and Filixine (Paquet) Gauthier. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this area prior to moving to Athens, just two years ago. Prior to that, he and his wife lived in Poland for 30 years.

On July 5, 1954, he married the former Arlene Fontaine. Mr. Gauthier worked many years as a carpenter and builder for the Union until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Moose Alley ATV Club in Athens and was also a life member of the NRA.

He was an all around avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling and riding his ATV. He also still did some building construction work, which he enjoyed, in his spare time.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Arlene of Athens; five sons, Marcel P. and his wife Katherine of Greene, Roland R. of Clearwater Cove, Fla.,, John W. and his fiancee Lindie Leclair of Litchfield, Norman J. and his wife Louann of Minot and Daniel S. of Washington State; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Nadeau of Lewiston, Evelyn Grimmel of Greene, and Margaret Paradis and her husband Claude of Canada; and three brothers, Clement and his wife Bernice and Rosaire and his wife Lucia both of Lewiston and Victor and his wife Mary of Athens.

He was predeceased by one sister; and two brothers.
