LISBON FALLS – Margaret Piela, 89, died May 25, at her Lisbon Falls residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Madison, Sept. 9, 1914, a daughter of Joseph and Helen (Horvat) Stoklas, she was a stepdaughter of Elizabeth Stoklas.

She was educated in Jay schools. She was a communicant of the former Holy Family Parish and currently Holy Trinity Parish. She was a devoted church organist for 35 years at Holy Family Parish, retiring in 1999.

She was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards and was fond of all family and senior citizen gatherings. She was married in Chisholm on Feb. 22, 1936, to Carl T. Piela Sr., who died in Portland on April 3, 1988.

She was co-owner and operator of Lisbon Fuel Co., which she continued to operate until 1995.

Survivors include two sons, John J. Piela and his wife, Patricia of Durham and Carl T. Piela Jr. and his wife, Jane of Lisbon Falls; four daughters, Helen Dunton and her husband, William of Westport Island, Nancy Piela of Lisbon Falls, Anita Campbell and her husband, John of Harrison and Margaret Roe of South Portland; a sister, Elizabeth Coulombe of Jay; two brothers, Joseph Stoklas and wife, Jenny of Mexico and Louis Stoklas of Jay; and 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two children, Stephen Piela and Mary Piela; and a sister, Mary H. Viger.
