LISBON – The planning committee is busy putting the finishing touches on the town’s annual three-day Moxie Festival the weekend of July 9, 10 and 11.

The event, which draws upward of 30,000 people, will celebrating its 21st year. This year’s theme is “Groovin’ with Moxie: The Bittersweet 70’s” and will feature a number of 70s-style events.

Lisbon’s Fire Department is celebrating 150 years this year and will enhance the activities with several events of its own. From 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 9, the department will host a carnival with games and other activities for the family, including several informative demonstrations.

Saturday will feature a pancake breakfast and the fireman’s muster, but the highlight will be a parade beginning at 9 a.m. There are other events throughout the day, including a Moxie recipe contest, face painting, crafts and games, pony rides, food vendors and musical entertainment.

The festival will conclude on Sunday with a canoe race and tours of the historic Ridge Schoolhouse.

Anyone wishing to participate in the festival planning or activities can contact committee Chairwoman Sue Conroy at 353-2050 or 353-5354.
