SABATTUS – The Sabattus Fire Department has set up a Web site, www.sabattusfire.com, to help inform residents of department happenings and to offer fire safety tips.

The site is maintained by Pvt. Christian Arsenault, who also serves as the department’s secretary. Arsenault encourages Sabattus residents to check the site to find phone numbers for administrators, as well as information about burning permits and other related activities.

The department’s smoke detector program is ongoing. Those in need of smoke detectors or replacement batteries may seek free appliances from the department. The program is run through a grant from the Maine Communities Foundation. More information is available on the Web site or by calling 375-4201 and leaving a message.

The department’s warm-weather fund-raising is under way. Those wishing to fill their swimming pools with water can call Arsenault at 786-0056 or 576-7362, or Chris Morin at 375-6257 or 576-4923, or leave a message on the department phone.

The department is reforming its junior firefighters program for those teenagers interested in joining as junior members to get first-hand experience in firefighting.

Prospective members must be at least 14, in good health and have parents’ or guardians’ permission. They will receive appropriate training in fire behavior, fire ground safety and survival and several other areas of firefighting. For more information, call Don Fournier at 375-9927, or leave a message on the department’s phone.
