CASCO – AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps members are heading to Camp Sunshine, to assist with maintenance and to work as counselors. The AmeriCorps team of 10, who call themselves Eagle 8, looks forward to continuing the efforts set forth by previous teams.

Corps members will perform several construction projects at the camp, including trail clearing throughout the area that will have a wheelchair-accessible nature and fitness trail, and putting up a fence along the property.

When camp season is in full swing, the NCCC members will work with the families as counselors.

Camp Sunshine, on Lake Sebago, is a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The camp was designed as a resort with many indoor and outdoor activity areas. The children have the chance to play with others and have a vacation, and the parents are given the opportunity for workshops and to relax during their stay.

Camp Sunshine gives the family a free vacation due to the donations they receive.

Corps members, all ages 18 to 24, must complete 1,700 hours of service during their 10-month term. In exchange for their service, members receive an education award, which can be applied to educational loans or future costs associated with secondary education.

AmeriCorps is directed by the Corp. for National and Community Service. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply now. Many programs have no upper age limit. For more information, visit www.americorps.org or call 1-800-942-2677.
