AUBURN – The Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. met at the Auburn VFW to discuss the annual Golden Age Games in Fresno, Calif., in August.

Maine hosted the 2003 Veterans Golden Age Games last year at the University of Maine in Orono. It was the first time in its 26-year history that an event of that proportion has come to Maine.

The Maine VFW is engaged in a fund-raising effort to send qualified disabled veterans to Fresno for the competition.

Maine VFW Quartermaster Donald W. Linscott Jr., chairman, said, “Through great negotiations by the Veterans Administration, the cost to send each veteran via air and lodging and food for the five-day event will cost $1,000.”

Anyone wishing to help in the endeavor is asked to send a check for any amount to: VAVS Golden Age Games, in care of Maine VFW, P.O. Box 1286, Auburn, ME 04211-1286. Donations are deductible and receipts will be issued on request.
