AUBURN – The Knights of Columbus has sponsored Hour of Prayer programs since 1980. Framed icons, usually of the Blessed Mother, travel from council to council during the year as the focal point of prayer services.

This year the Knight of Columbus Council 8742 from the Auburn Catholic Community has the Divine Mercy icon. A special prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Sacred Heart Church. Members invite all interested priests and religious to participate in the special hour of prayer.

Over the years the programs have been attended by more than 12 million participants in some 88,000 prayer services.

This year the Hour of Prayer program takes Divine Mercy as its theme. Divine Mercy was selected to honor Pope John Paul II, to whom the devotion is important. It is also a time to pray for peace.

All are welcome to pray for peace. The council invites members from other councils to join them as well as Assemblies of the Fourth Degree.
