AUBURN – An equipment failure in a Hotel Road substation shut down power to 2,777 homes for 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon.

Central Maine Power officials are blaming the power outage on failed insulator at the Auburn power substation. The blackout affected CMP customers in Auburn, Durham, New Gloucester and Poland at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday.

“The best way to describe it is to just call it an equipment failure,” said Communications Director John Carroll.

Carroll said CMP crews had power restored to the area by 6:18 p.m. Tuesday.
