FARMINGTON – Henderson Memorial Baptist Church held a day of appreciation for Verne and Lora Byers on May 23. The surprise celebration attracted a large congregation to express their appreciation.

Verne is serving as treasurer of the church while Lora is co-chairwoman of the diaconate.

Over their 38 years as members, both have taken turns serving on nearly every board and committee and in almost every leadership position.

They have given of themselves to help make many dreams possible, and the church is grateful for their servant-leadership, said members.

At a luncheon reception after worship, the Byers received cards and a book of memories, as well as the thanks of many friends.

An appreciation day was held for Crystal Poulin, who was honored for her nearly 20 years of service as treasurer.

On April 18 Poulin and Lorraine Dingley, formerly assistant treasurer, were presented corsages at the beginning of the worship service. A light lunch followed the service.

Church Moderator John Anderson, presented Poulin a dress watch, engraved with the words of Isaiah 6:4 and HMBC 2004.

The scripture contains Isaiah’s response to God’s question, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah answers, “Here I am Lord, send me.” Not only did Poulin serve as the church treasurer for more than 20 years, she was also honored for her short-term mission service each year to La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

Henderson Memorial Baptist Church is located on the corner of Main and Academy streets. All are welcome to worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Summer worship will change to 9:30 a.m. beginning June 13.
