AUGUSTA – On June 19 and 20, the Central Maine Kennel Club of Augusta will have American Kennel Club Conformation Point Shows in the Augusta Civic Center between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

Between 700 and 800 dogs will be competing, according to the organizers.

All dogs competing are registered with the American Kennel Club and come from throughout the United States and Canada.

The dogs first compete for best of breed within seven groups: sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting and herding. The winner of each breed then competes with all the breed winners in each group for the best dog in that group; those seven winning dogs then compete for best in show.

There will be six rings going at the same time in the Civic Center beginning around 8 a.m. Spectators are welcome.

A schedule will be published a week before the event on the Web at raudogshows.com.

On June 18 through June 20, agility trials and obedience trials will be held on Jewett field of the University of Maine at Augusta adjacent to the Augusta Civic Center.

These shows are the kick off of the Augusta/Gardiner Great Whatever Days. For more information on any of these events, people can call (207) 622-1074.

For the Central Maine Kennel Club shows on June 19 and 20, there is a fee of $3 for adults and $2 for children over 5. Groups of 10 or more are discounted.
