NORWAY – Deanna Merchant was chosen as Norway’s Stone-Smart American Legion Unit 82 Poppy Girl for 2004, and she took part in the Memorial Day parade. She is the daughter of Arden and Dayle Merchant, members of the American Legion family.

In the fifth-grade at Guy E. Rowe School, Merchant is active in field hockey and chorus, is on gymnastics team at the YMCA, takes piano lessons and loves to hunt and fish with her dad.

Merchant is a junior member of the auxiliary and was recently elected Department of Maine junior historian for 2004-05 at the Junior Convention in Bath, where she met the American Legion Auxiliary president.
