RUMFORD – The Rumford Area Rotary will again sponsor road races on Saturday, July 3, to celebrate the Moontide Water Festival.

Races included the certified River Valley 5K (ME99001WN), the River Valley 10K and one-quarter to one-mile fun runs. The River Valley 5K race has been certified by the USA Track and Field Road Running Technical Council. It is routed through the towns of Rumford and Mexico, crossing five historic bridges and traversing the downtown sections of each town. The race starts and finishes at Hosmer Field.

The River Valley 10K involves running the 5K course twice. Participants may run in both races.

The One-Mile Fun Run will provide an opportunity for young runners and children to try competition. The route will be four times around the Hosmer Field track. Participants may choose to run one or two laps rather than the full four laps.

Preregistration before Monday, June 28, assures runs of receiving a free commemorative T-shirt. Pre-registration for the 5 and 10 K races is $10. To pre-register, contact Paul Jones at 207-562-7172 or

Race day registration is $12. Fun Run registration is $5. Race day registration will be from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. The Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5 and 10K races at 9 a.m.

Bleachers will be set up at the finish line for observers and refreshments will be available after the races. Awards will be presented as soon as the results are determined.
