TURNER – SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education will present a variety of sports events and fun camps through the summer. Basketball camps for boys and girls and high school soccer are under way.

Major League soccer camps will be held Aug. 2 through 6 for boys and girls ages 5 through 18. The program offers more than 30 years of soccer camp experience. Male and female coaches are licensed and trained in first aid. All campers receive a personal camp evaluation, ball and T-shirt.

Junior and middle school field hockey, Aug. 9 through 13: learn about field hockey and the skills of the game or work on improving skills and knowledge of the game.

Fitness is Fun: From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays, until July 26. Low key, fun fitness program for grades four through 12. Run/walk and play games with other kids and have fun getting fit. The program is appropriate for all ability levels. Older students will act as mentors/role models for younger students.

Vacation Fun Day: Join the fun of playing games, reading stories and/or doing arts and crafts on Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Turner Adult Learning Center. There will be games available, but children are welcome to bring their favorites to share. Participants need to sign up prior to the activity day. Snacks will be provided.

Art Camp: A week of drawing July 12 through 16 at Adult Learning Center from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Learn to draw still lifes, landscapes; also basic shapes, shadows and one and two perspectives.

Basic Cooking for Ages 9 to 14: Class July 12 to 15. “Chef” Ward will help students understand the proper preparation of food and how to make it pleasing to the eye as well as the taste.

Tennis camp for all ages: July 12 through 16 at Tripp Middle School tennis courts, designed to serve beginner and intermediate players. Physical well being traits will be covered throughout the camp. Each person will need a racket and a can of marked tennis balls.

Fitness Around the World: Youngsters will learn how children from around the world keep fit and have fun. Kids will exercise to music from around the world, learn their culture, nutritional facts from other countries, plus multi-cultured sports and games. There are two classes. One Wednesday, June 30, running through Aug. 18; the second Mondays July 12 through Aug. 23.

Summer Olympics: Offers a choice of six events to practice and learn. Class includes stretching warm-up, muscle exercises, event practice, cool down and sportsmanship discussing. Choose from two classes. One on Wednesdays beginning June 30 and one on Mondays starting July 12.

Model Aviation Camp: Explore the hobby of building and flying model airplanes beginning Tuesday, July 13, for six weeks. The class is intended for people who are new to the hobby as well as current enthusiasts. It includes building a simple stick and tissue model, indoor and outdoor flying, control-line and radio-control demonstrations, guest speakers and outings. Participants under age 11 need to be accompanied by an adult. There will also be Saturday outings.
