LEWISTON – Registration is open for a number of summer session courses that begin next month at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College campus. Most classes begin the week of July 5, meet twice a week and run for seven weeks. A few other courses are offered on a one- or three-week schedule.

In addition to general academic courses, including College Writing, Literature, Critical Thinking, Psychology, Anthropology and Public Speaking, an introductory computer course and a course in Microsoft Excel will be offered.

A course in organizational consulting will be offered in a special one-week session, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 26 to 30. The course will cover topics such as consulting strategies, self-assessment and ethical considerations. Students will also have the opportunity to apply consulting theories and concepts through working with actual clients.

A number of graduate courses for teachers will be offered through USM’s College of Education and Human Development and the Professional Development Center. They include the following: Children’s Literature, Adolescent Literature, Linguistics and Cultural Diversity, ESL: Language Testing and Assessment, Problems in Literacy Assessment, Poetry in the Classroom, Coordinating the Career Prep Curriculum, Conflict Resolution and Mediation in Schools, Differentiation of Instruction, Methods of Teaching Math/Special Needs and Technology in Special Education.
