SOUTH PARIS – Walter Edward Toothaker, 66, of Harrison, passed away Thursday, June 24, at the Maine Veterans Home.

Born in South Paris, Feb. 26, 1938, the son of George Linwood and Barbara Scribner Toothaker Sr., he received his G.E.D. and was valedictorian of the Adult Education Class, graduating in 1991 from Oxford Hills High School.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed by Community Concepts in South Paris as a dispatcher, at Robinson Manufacturing in Oxford for four years and most recently he was a driver for the Progress Center in Norway.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Norway and the Grace Fellowship Church in Oxford. He enjoyed hunting and was a avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox, the New England Patriots and NASCAR fan No. 2.

Survivors include his wife of Harrison, the former Marion Nellie Downs, whom he married on Aug. 3, 2002; two sons, Bobby Toothaker and his wife, Angel of Panama City, Fla., and Brian Toothaker and his wife, Coleen of Waterford; one daughter, Charity Toothaker of Augusta; four stepsons, David Toothaker and his wife, Patti of Harrison, Steven Toothaker of Norway, James Toothaker of Norway and William Toothaker of Harrison; two stepdaughters, Karen Nelson of Norway and Lisa Burch and her husband, Paul of Chesapeake, Va.; 23 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, Hazel Gray of Norway, Linwood Toothaker and B.J. of Norfolk, Mass., Rodney Toothaker of Woonsocket, R.I., Arline Gaudet and Tom of Bellingham, Mass., Richard Toothaker and Linda of Mills, Mass., Roy Toothaker of Lewiston, Jacklyn Garand of Norway, Charles and Brenda Swett of Mechanic Falls, Paul and Lorraine Swett of Green Bay, Wisc., Sally and Thomas Smith of Old Orchard Beach, Linda and Cary Cox of New Gloucester, Laurel and Perry Hoyt of Oakwood, Texas, Robert and Jan Swett of Harrison and Terry and Sandy Swett of Bridgton; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including his cousin, David R. Toothaker of South Paris.

He was predeceased by his parents; his stepmother, Lucille Wojcik; and a brother, George Linwood Toothaker, Jr.

He will be missed and remembered fondly by his many family members and friends.
