LEWISTON – The Japan-America Society of Maine celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Members of the society recently journeyed to Japan to help in the celebration of the 20th year of the sister city relationship between Portland and Shinagawa, Japan.

It was also the 10th year of exchange agreement between the state and Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Society President David Fulenwider of Buckfield presented gifts from Maine to Aomori Prefecture officials.

The sister state agreement was renewed as well. It calls for virtual museum exchange exhibitions between Maine and Aomori as well as grass roots projects to promote understanding between Japan and Maine.
