AUBURN – The faculty at Edward Little High School honored three of its retiring staff members at a gathering at Martindale Country Club on June 10. Honored were Janet Lancaster, Bonnie Galway and Dennis Sweetser.

Lancaster has been an educator for 30 years. She joined the faculty at ELHS in 1998 as a member of the math department where she taught computer technology. She previously taught at Auburn Middle School for six years, Westbrook College for 13 years, and at Lewiston Junior High School and Mount Abram High School in Salem.

Both graduates of Edward Little, Sweetser (’57) and Galway (’66) have been teachers at ELHS since 1971 and 1982 respectively.

Sweetser was an educator for 42 years, the last 33 at Edward Little High School. He was chairman of the science department for 13 years, where he also taught chemistry. He previously taught at Bridgton and Hall-Dale High School. During his tenure at ELHS, Sweetser coached freshmen and junior varsity basketball for four years.

Galway was a member of the foreign language department for 22 years where she taught Spanish. As adviser to the Spanish Club for 18 years, she led many student trips to Spain during spring breaks.

Prior to returning to Edward Little as a teacher, Galway taught for 11 years at Oxford Hills High School where she was the yearbook adviser, as well as the softball coach and French Club adviser. Her career in education has spanned 33 years.
