LEWISTON – Marine Corps Capt. Scott A. Cormier, whose wife, Adria, is the daughter of Pam Heffernan of Gray and Alan Bedford of Rumford, has received the Air Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for flight operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He was assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron One, Marine Aircraft Group 14, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.

While serving as an electronic countermeasures officer, Cormier and the crew of his EA-6B Prowler, a long-range aircraft with advanced electronic countermeasures and communication jamming capabilities, supported two coalition strike groups as they launched assaults on various targets in Iraq.

Despite receiving enemy surface-to-air missile fire, Cormier manipulated his aircraft’s weapon systems in order to best support the strike aircraft by jamming both enemy radars and communication networks.
