NORWAY – The front room of Kemson Holyoke’s home is filled with fragrant smells of candles and soaps.

With the flowers in her driveway leading to her deck, and the basket filled with her products by the door, Holyoke invites customers inside her new store, the Fragrance Garden at 27 Tucker St., which she bills as “a natural approach to indulge your senses.”

Inside, lining the shelves and the walls are more than 25 fragrances embodied in colorful candles, soaps, shampoos, lotions, bath gels and massage oils. All are “super-scented,” she said, and made with almost all natural ingredients.

Using natural ingredients is important to Holyoke; she spurns commercial wicks, which have metal in the core, in favor of the all-hemp variety. Her oils, lotions and shampoos are all natural, and have health benefits for the skin.

“That’s why I did this. I always loved candles and I also wanted to take a more natural approach” in making them. She believes in making products that are “healthy for you and for the environment.”

She makes the products in her kitchen. To get ready for the opening of her new store two weeks ago, she started making the products last October.

It’s a time-consuming process, she says. “You have to wait for just the right time” for bottling and pouring molds.

“It took a couple of months to get it down to a system.”

Holyoke is setting up a Web site, www.fragrancegardenco.com, to sell her products online. Her store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
