NORWAY – A public interest forum will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Norway Memorial Library.

Bike safety

OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Fire Association Public Education Team, with assistance from the Greater Portland Council of Governments, will offer a bike safety program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Spurrs Corner Fire Station.

Children in grades kindergarten through six are eligible. Each participant will receive a free bicycle helmet, funded by the Kerry Grover Memorial Fund. Activities include a bike inspection, helmet fitting, safety course, bike flags and helmets as well as an opportunity to win a new bike.

Hymn festival

PARIS – The First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, will present the annual Hymn Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11. The topic of the service will be “God in Nature.”

The service will feature congregational singing, vocal solos and duets, flute solos, organ and piano duets and organ solos. Participating will be Jeannie and Berdina Whittemore, Jeannie Byers, Renee Wales, Virginia Noble and Forest Perkins, church organist.

Everyone is invited to the evening of music. An offering will be received at the door for the Organ/Instrument Maintenance Fund.

Tea party

PARIS – A Charlotte’s Web Tea Party will be held at 3 0.m. Sunday, July 11, in the McLaughlin Garden, South Paris. Celebrate E.B.White’s birthday.

Kids are invited to bring their adult and a cherished friend (a Velveteen Rabbit, a Raggedy Anne, a Winnie the Pooh) to tea. Cost is $5 and reservations are required. Call 743-8820 for details.

Bridge news

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge welcomed new players Friday. Leslie Lord, Willie Johnson and Henry Deutsch joined a game.

Winners after eight rounds for North-South were: first, Rosemarie Goodwin and Leslie Lord; second, Anna Cormier and Woodrow Mercier; third, Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; fourth, Eric and Marilyn Sahlberg. Larry Holmes and Mimi Bell, along with Carol Curran and Suzanne Dame Andrews, placed.

East-West winners were: first, Paul Barber and Les Buzzell; second, Bill Bowman and Henry Deutsch; third, Nick Karamessinis and Jim Flanagan; fourth, Errol and Pam Libby; and fifth, Pat Quinn and Georgette Jewell.

A “No Bottoms” game will be held on Friday, July 9. Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge is held at 9 a.m. every Friday at the Fare Share Coop Building, 445 Main St. Parking and entrance are behind the building. Call Mimi Bell at 743-8081 for details.
