LEWISTON – Matt Parker was awarded his Eagle Scout Award on June 13 during a Boy Scout Troop 116 Court of Honor opened by Sen. Peggy Rotundo, who gave an inspiring message. She also presented a proclamation from the State Senate and House of Representatives.

Other greetings were received from President and Mrs. George Bush, President Gerald Ford, Rep. Mike Michaud, Gov. John Baldacci, Montello Elementary School Principal Gus LeBlanc, family and friends. The trail to Eagle was given by former Scoutmaster Peter Lajoie. The Eagle Charge was handled by another former Scoutmaster, Larry Thibault.

For his community service project, Parker chose to help his former elementary school by doing two projects. A tree identification trail was built behind Montello’s track. In addition, Parker designed, painted and installed a double-sided, carved welcome sign for the East Avenue entrance to Montello, complete with flowers and ornamental trees.

Parker is the son of Mike and Leslie Parker and will be a senior at Lewiston High School this fall. The honor roll student is active in math club, L Club, varsity soccer and lacrosse. This spring he was inducted into the National Honor Society.
